About this book
It seems like everywhere you go on the Internet, there is spam, spyware, and the risk of viruses infecting your computer and ruining your online experience. In businesses alone, according to Nucleus Research Inc., spam costs more than $712 per employee in productivity and computing resources each year. Spyware slows computers, ruins files, and can result in stolen information. According to the same Nucleus Research report, businesses lose more than $70 billion annually because of computer viruses - and the cost continues to rise as every major company moves to a fully digital workplace. Every time you download a computer virus or click on a spam e-mail by accident, you are wasting money, endangering your computer, and risking the loss of personal and business information. This complete, revolutionary book has compiled all of the vital information you need to make sure that you are able to combat the billion dollar risk of incursive software infecting your home and work computers. With How to Stop E-mail Spam, Spyware, and Computer Viruses from Ruining Your Computer, you will learn why there is so much spam in your inbox, how the spammer thinks, and what the goals of spyware and viruses actually are. Then, you will learn how you can start spam-proofing your inbox by never giving away personal information and using secure e-mail clients. You will learn how companies get spyware onto your hard drive and what you can do to block it from appearing. Learn which viruses have caused the most damage and how they can infect your computer. Then, discover which software is most effective at blocking the download and infestation of viruses onto your hard drives. You will learn the value of a good firewall, what it does to stop the ill will of spammers and hackers, and what actions you can take to block the breach of your firewall and your computer's defenses. Learn how to remove spyware from your computer and make sure you are not giving away personal or valuable work information. This guide will also teach you how to lock down your inbox and desktop to keep that software from returning. Find out what to do when you do get a virus and how to return your computer to the state of security it was in beforehand. Most importantly, with the valued input gathered from interviews with computer security and safety experts, you will learn how you became a target for all that spam. Discover what you are doing that makes it so easy for spammers to fill your inbox and how to safeguard your e-mail. Once you have tackled the source of the problems, as outlined in this book, you will have all the tools you need to combat the incursive and destructive effects of spam, spyware, and computer viruses.

Webroot Secure Anywhere Internet Security Complete 2013 vs. Norton 360 2013 Premier

*****I've used Norton anti-virus products for years and currently use Norton 360 2013 Premier. See, . Norton 360 2013 Premier is, imho, the best of the Norton products. I also use Webroot Secure Anywhere Internet Security Complete 2013, (see, ), a relatively new product. Both products are excellent, but differ in several important respects. I have two Windows PCs, one running Windows XP Professional and the other running Windows 7. I have run both programs on both machines.Footprint: Norton occupies about 123 mb of space on my drive, whereas Webroot occupies about .70 mb... 5/5 RWM (New York, New York) - See all my reviews, December 9, 2012

    Greatest anti-virus product hands down!!

First, I am John, Bzmum's husband/IT manager/keeper of her estate, etc. I have to maintain three PC's; an old Dell Dimension 2400 (single core processor running XP Home), an older Inspiron E-series laptop (Centrino dual core processor and XP Home edition), and a newer Inspiron laptop (dual core running Windows 7). I have used all the major anit-virus suites in the recent past (Symantec, Trend, McAfee, and Kapersky), and all were slow to update and run. They all tend to be resource hogs, especially on the old Dimension 2400. Once our Kapersky subscription ran out, I tried the demo versions of Webroot (installed on the Dimension), AVG on the older Inspiron, and the new Kapersky on the new Inspiron. The Webroot trial loaded the fastest, scanned the fastest, and allowed the older Dimension to run like a bat out of Hades. I could actually run multiple browsers, my Livescribe pen software, listen to online radio content, and upload pencasts to servers simultaneously (I teach an... 5/5 Bzmum (WA USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) You might want to use one of the other Webroot versions ...

(Note: Amazon is using the old naming of the products, and I accidentally downloaded and installed Complete - see the Webroot site and the Amazon comparison chart).I've been using "Webroot" for about four or five years, including when the product was Prevx. Webroot acquired Prevx and eventually replaced their Webroot flagship product with the Prevx product (you can do an Internet search if you want more info). I'll focus this review on my experience with the company and product.I'd decided to downgrade from SecureAnywhere "Complete", for two reasons - their Backup and Sync feature currently uses Sugarsync technology. So, if you are using Sugarsync, you might want to drop down to Internet Security Plus, which I did. Also, a PCmag article states that the Webroot password feature uses LastPass password technology. Unfortunately, there is no warning from Webroot on this (Sugar Sync and LastPass), you just get to find it out on your own. The other reason is that I... 2/5 Greg Davis, June 20, 2013

    Slower but Safe

You have a choice to make when you install internet security software. Some products wrap your laptop in a secure fortress. That's great, as long as you don't mind waiting for your browser to load. Every. time. Some products are faster, but they leave you with some doubt. When will I get the cornficker? For people that want to risk it and go more quickly, it is possible to just buy one anti-virus program and then run the Window firewall. That isn't entirely a bad idea, particularly if you are using a router. If you are on a modem or some kind of dial-up, with no buffer between your computer and the outside world, then you need more. If you are going to use your laptop at an internet cafe, you probably need to err on the safe side, as well.I run CA at work. It is very slow. The other day, my CA firewall blocked me from accessing our share drive. I wouldn't even dare to use the program that puts content safeguards in place in order to protect children. It makes it... 3/5 Adam Rust "a_rust" (Durham, NC) - See all my reviews, November 10, 2010

Love this product-quick and comprehensive for our needs

We have used this product for the last 3-4 years and love it for Spyware and general Internet production. We had Spysweeper with Antivirus previously and now are using the Internet Protection package just received, which I am here reviewing.Compared the the other version we had, this one seems a bit less smoother in its interface, with tabs that are laid out in a simple interface, and the settings are pre-set to allow for regular scans and background protection.Websites are now automatically tagged as safe or unsafe, when they appear in search results, and the pop up that alerts us of intrusions seems to function quicker and quickly disappears (the other one seems to be a bit more jagged when it appears). The other fact to note is that this product has not slowed down either of our laptops or desktops significantly, while scanning. Some other "suite" type products practically grinds the computer to a halt, which can be intrusive and annoying, but we... 5/5 :::DIGITAL BABE::: ":::DIGITAL BABE:::" - See all my reviews This review is from: Webroot Internet Security Complete 3-User (DVD-ROM) Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?) I bought this from Amazon for about $19 incl shipping. It got to me by regular mail 4 days after I placed my order. $19/3 computers = $6.33 per machine for internet security. I previously tested all the major competitor's products in real time for 30 days each. Some passed a lot of malware, some bogged the computer down, some interfered with my e-mail and some allowed viruses to pass. I have run real-time tests with malware scanners and sandboxes on my machines. Of the several products I tested, this one has come closer to a perfect score than the others. My malware scanners come up with zero malware now most of the time and the competing products always passed some each day. This product is the least invasive of any other - meaning it doesn't bother me with pop-ups at all and doesn't slow my computers down. I worry less about malare and viruses now and enjoy my computer time most using this product. It auto-scans each day unnoticed. Still a big fan of Webroot despite . . .

In 2011, I wrote a review praising Webroot in general and SecureAnywhere in particular. At that time, I said this: "Webroot SecureAnywhere came to our rescue when other anti-virus programs could not. Other anti-virus software had failed to protect our PC and the malware had disabled the security software, prevented downloading any other versions, and limited our access to the Internet. Where other security software had been disabled by the malware, SecureAnywhere Beta was not stopped. This computer is clean again and SecureAnywhere is our new anti-virus of choice." In 2012, I stuck with Webroot SecureAnywhere, and today I just installed " Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Plus 2013 - 3 Devices." I did so despite my anoyance with Webroot's constant emails and popup windows over the past several weeks imploring me to pay $60 to renew my subscription while new versions are on sale for less than half that price. Webroot AV

I have used Webroot's spyware program for years and always found it to be top notch and reasonably priced. As Comcast Cable subscribers we have access to free AV software which was originally Mcafee until they switched to Norton a while back. Both did their job fairly well and except for one instance where something was able to slip through, I found them to be adequate for my needs. Lately, I started to experience some lock-ups and sluggishness while on the net and after doing all of the typical diagnostic procedures I realized that the Norton AV was running a little more "heavier" in the background than I would like, and though this was being done for my benefit, was causing me problems in day to day use. As I said, I always found Webroot SpySweeper to be a great product and decided to take a look into their AV offerings. 0 4/5 cybernauta (Lexington, KY, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Webroot Internet Security Essentials 3-User (DVD-ROM) I'm generally pleased with WISE since it does not slow my computer down. The only complaints I have is that WISE'S antivirus and spyware protection is slow to get switched on after my computer is turned on. Also, security scans take about an hour; I would prefer 30-40 minutes to do a scan. I would recommend Webroot to other computer users. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 15, 2010

Waste of money, terrible customer service

0 1/5 ritabenney - See all my reviews This review is from: Webroot Internet Security Complete 2011 1PC (DVD-ROM) I purchased Webroot complete 2011 for my new toshiba laptop at the end of April 2011. One month later, I started getting lots of error messages "windows can't find hard drive" "Private data at risk" "hard drive failure" !!! I immediately called Toshiba and they told me a had a virus and to contact Webroot. I attempted to call two days in a row, first day the wait time to speak with a tech 50 min. I hung up after 30 min. Second day I acually held the line for over 1 hr and was then disconnected!!!! Thats when I decided to write this review. I saved my hard earned money to buy my laptop, I trusted this software would protect my investment its just a scam. I will try to call webroot AGAIN early in the morning. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 1, 2011

Webroot Internet Security Complete 2011 1 PC

0 1/5 Roth (USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Webroot Internet Security Complete 2011 1PC (DVD-ROM) The first problem I had with this product is registering it. Then it would not download correctly. Only half of it worked. So I got a refund from the seller and that was the only good part of this, (I wasnt stuck with this) because I have tried numerous times to get the program off my computer but it wont uninstall completely. Every time I start my computer it starts up and reads error. When I have tried to uninstall it, it says it doesnt exist but Webroot icon exist and it begins when I start up my computer. I cant fully get rid of it.IF Webroot is a good product I would never know it. I wont try anymore of their products after this. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 19, 2012

    A nice Surprise

I have tested many different AntiVirus Software over the last 10 years. Some consume the majority of your system resources and clog your system with giving you little or no protection, where others partially clog and partially protect. Then there is the scanning. I have 3TB of files on my system, most AntiVirus software takes over 2 - 5 hours to scan, and I can not work on my computer at the same time. This one takes less than 2.5 minutes for a full scan. I have yet to find a product that works half as good as a Webroot product. I have used Webroot Spysweeper for five years and I insist my clients use it as well on the computer systems I build or fix for them. When Webroot asked me to Beta test this product I was willing because I felt confident in their products. It installs quickly and then quietly works in the background... so quietly that I actually forgot it was there, until one day it popped up informing me that it found something. Wow, I actually forgot it was there! Product not the same as it once was.

Once upon a time I loved Webroot. Then something happened. With a previous version, two of the computers when I upgraded to the next version, the license duration reset to one-day. Customer support was never able to resolve that. So I upgraded to only one computer with my 3-pack. I've had trouble with web pages over time -- careful with google; too many abandoned, orphaned links with wrong information. I cannot get the automated support to work today. So I called: estimated wait time, over one-hour. And now they have downgraded features mid-stream of my license -- they no longer scan cookies. How many products are there when you download an update, the update downgrades your service? The one positive thing: the new version is really fast! For me that does not really matter since it is not doing what it was advertised to do.Update:Be careful! With Webroot you are set up for automatic renewal. They will give you a chance to opt-out a month or... 1/5 Fishfiddler - See all my reviews This review is from: Webroot SecureAnywhere Antivirus 2012 (3 PCs) [Old Version] (Software) Once upon a time I loved Webroot.
